Antarctica

One last leopard seal for the road. A few of these guys followed our kayaks during our final excursion in Antarctica. Check out those eyes! . . . #theworldwalk #travel #antarcticaThese elephant seals smelled about as good as you'd imagine. Still, I couldn't help but be drawn closer by their skin's incredible texture. #theworldwalk #travel #antarcticaBefore walking I had zero interest in photography. I'd probably taken less than a few hundred photos during my twenty five years. However, after passing through so many incredible places I've grown a desire to accurately capture the feeling those places gNot only was I fortunate enough to be in Antarctica, and fortunate enough to have the money to pay for kayaking, but I also had a single all week. I was able to chase whales and wait for the shots I wanted. #theworldwalk #travel #antarctica #teampixel #giOne of the neater things about Antarctica is that most animals don't have land based predators so they don't have much fear of humans. Penguins will walk right up to you. Seals will poke their head in the air then fall back asleep a moment later. #theworlNothing like a peaceful walk on the beach. #theworldwalk #travel #antarctica #teampixel #giftfromgoogleRemember you'll be extinguished in just a moment's time. Consider constantly how you should be living. #theworldwalk #travel #antarcticaAmong the South Shetland Island archipelago is the aptly named Deception Island. The island's ring of mountains provides near perfect protection to the bay inside. For a few years a sealing industry boomed there. Then the whaling industry. The calm watersThe US Palmer Station has a population of about 35 during the summer and about 10 during the winter. Arguably the most important person on base is the mechanic. Without a good mechanic the station would quickly succumb to the harsh Antarctic environment.Came across these elephant seals during our last walk on Antarctica. They're massive and sleepy and their skin is amazingly textured. Evolution does some cool things. #theworldwalk #travel #antarcticaChasing whales in a kayak is fun, but when they come to you it's better. #theworldwalk #travel #antarcticaOur first excursion in the kayaks was unreal. Just to be free on the icy water was like falling into a daydream. The wind was calm and the sky cloudy. I paddled slow, made to feel small among such tremendous beauty. Near the end of our outing I rounded anFor our first landing we stopped at a Gentoo penguin colony. Since it was the end of summer the penguins were molting. Their old, used feathers were being pushed out by fresh, new ones. It didn't look like a very pleasant experience for them. #theworldwalAfter two days crossing the Drake Passage - notoriously the roughest sea in the world - this was my first sight of the seventh continent. #theworldwalk #travel #antarctica #teampixel #giftfromgoogleWell, that was the sickest thing I've ever experienced. Antarctica is like an alien planet. Many, many more photos to come. #theworldwalk #travel #antarctica
