Saw this at seventeen and knew what I wanted to do with my life. Karl Bushby, the ultimate thug; British ex-paratrooper, crossed the Darien Gap, swam/hiked across the Bering Strait. I love being on the road, but being freshly showered and able to wander around the city withouThe road I'm on is unbelievably stressful; no shoulder, curvy, and too many cars. Thankfully I only have twelve more miles of it and views like this. #TheWorldWalk #Mexico #travel #twwphotosDay 243. Should be crossing into Guatemala today, just waiting for my cell service to start working. #theworldwalk #travel #MexicoDay 238. Package was on the move yesterday, will hopefully be here today or tomorrow. Bumming has been nice, I try to appreciate having a big bed, air-conditioning, and a hot shower because I know once I'm back on the road I'll be daydreaming of them. #thWatching people people-watching. #theworldwalk #travel #MexicoDay 237. Peppers and their salesman tucked in a cramped market alleyway. Huge bags of loose pasta for sale too. Still waiting on my package, looks to be another few days at least. I'll just think of this hotel room and my time off as a Christmas present tWalking through the centro of Tapachula there were five seat tiendas packed into the streets selling smoothies, grilled chicken, tacos, and just about everything else. #theworldwalk #travel #MexicoDay 236. Had a full day of doing nothing yesterday and it was fantastic. While I wait for my second package today I'll be making the most of my time in Tapachula; writing, Spanish, and photographing the city. They sell coconut milk with pulp out of plastic bags for ten pesos. Gonna be tremendously hot today, luckily I'm somewhat back in civilization so I'll be able to grab cold drinks along the way. #theworldwalk #travelDay 232. Love being up before sunrise every morning, with the clouds settled in the mountains I'm guaranteed some incredible views. Not much development down here, just massive landscapes. #theworldwalk #travel #mexicoDay 231. Sorry for the delay, there's no service between cities and the cities are about twenty-five miles apart. There isn't the strict form of ownership there is in the U.S. Many dogs are strays that people feed when they hang around their house. San Pedro Tapanatepec is a gorgeous little town. The mountains surrounding it carry a steady breeze along its streets while putt-putts ferry passengers to their colorful homes and chestnut-haired women gossip in the town center. #theworldwalk #trHad breakfast at a billiards room this morning. There was a guy there playing guitar and a chihuahua for Savannah to play with. #theworldwalk #travel #mexicoDay 226. Absurdly windy night. Probably shouldn't have set up beside the windmills. But all the ruckus of my tent shaking forced me up extra early and allowed me to enjoy my coffee with this view. Gorgeous country. #theworldwalk #travel #mexicoBlessed with some wonderful views today. #theworldwalk #travel #mexicoDay 223. Happy Thanksgiving! The rain has finally stopped! Thankful to be living my dream. Thankful to be healthy. Thankful for my family and for Savannah. Rain four days in a row and looks like it'll last another four. Savannah loves it, but I need dry socks. Still great to be out here, loving life. #theworldwalk #travel #mexicoWhere pineapples grow. #theworldwalk #travel #mexicoDay 219. Unlike the night before I had a great night sleep last night. Found a big tree to nestle my tent under then hung my dromedary bag and took an outdoor shower. Felt so nice falling asleep clean. Also, Go Birds! #theworldwalk #travel #mexicoWhat the typical restaurant has looked like for the past few hundred miles. Sometimes there's a menu, sometimes you just ask what they have. Either way you're guaranteed good grub. #theworldwalk #travel #mexicoDay 218. Camping every night means there's bound to be some bad sleeps, last night was one of them, traffic was loud and spent about a half an hour at one in the morning killing an invasion of ants. Luckily got packed this morning before it started raininBeneath the occasional overpass today has been someone with a pile of pineapples selling fresh pineapple juice. This shot is actually from yesterday, it's all rain this morning. Walked about six miles to a truck stop, attempting to wait out the rain here but doesn't look like it's gonna let up, might be no avoiding it today. #theworldwalk #travel #MexicoPretty lazy day today, probably connected to the massive breakfast I had at this place. I was so worried that I wasn't getting enough calories I ate too much at once. Savannah and I had to hang around on these chairs for a little to digest. #theworldwalkDay 216. Came across these guys and their mom about five minutes into walking this morning. Think this little one wanted to join me and Savannah. #theworldwalk #travel #MexicoAnother good day of tramping. Not a lot happening around here, think Savannah and I have at least a day's walk to the next place to restock. #theworldwalk #mexico #travelHas been a good walking day. Not heading to the vet, just liked the colors. Veracruz has been good to me, the week off gave me time to recoup physically and mentally. Ready to get back on the road and burn out some miles. #theworldwalk #mexico #travelDay 212. It would be a gorgeous day to be out for a eight hour walk, but who could do that when the Birds are playing later? Taking full advantage of my connectivity while I can. #theworldwalk #mexico #travelDay 211. A shot of the walkways at the fortress San Juan de Ulúa. Trying to decide whether to start walking again today...I really want to but it's raining intermittently and I know how much spending a day in the rain can suck. #theworldwalk #travel #mexiDay 210. Can't leave this nice room when it's raining...looks like it'll be another day here. Only walking far enough to make it to the coffee shop. Life is good. #theworldwalk #travel #mexicoThere's coral in the walls! #theworldwalk #travel #mexicoOkay, so I stayed another day. I'm liking this strip of land, lots of hotels and fairly developed. If I ever get some money I think I'll buy some beachfront property down here and live on the cheap. #theworldwalk #Mexico #travel #wwtheroadaheadOne of my best nights/mornings on the road. #TheWorldWalk #travel #Mexico #twwphotosHave come to my first true Mexican beach town. Couldn't resist grabbing a coke and bumming on the beach for a few hours. Nothing like having an entire beach to yourself. #theworldwalk #travel #Mexico #twwphotos #beachMy two hundredth day on the road is for a great friend of mine who passed a few weeks ago. I've been carrying his 1938 200 meter dash medal since I left. Bob Smith lived to 92. He was a star quarterback and track runner. He lived across the street from meWalking home. #TheWorldWalk #travel #mexico #twwphotosThe Road Ahead. Day 199. Legs are especially sore this morning, just gonna get moving and keep moving. El Tijan tomorrow! #TheWorldWalk #twwphotos #mexico #travelThe Road Ahead. Day 198. Short day because of the humidity yesterday. Ended it by setting up in another cemetery. I moved all my electronics to higher parts of my cart, took off my shoes, then crossed. There was a man and wife doing their laundry. I took a bath in the river then did laundry too. WheThe Road Ahead. Day 195. Took what I thought was a shortcut yesterday and ended up battling massive hills through protected forest. Was way too much work so cutback to the main road. Slept in a church on a hill last night. Was really nice. #TheWorldWalk #The Road Ahead. Day 194. Slept in a cemetery on a hill last night. This morning there were three booms like small bombs went off. I'm in a town though and everything seems peaceful so not sure what it was. Anyway, gorgeous country right now. #TheWorldWalkI think after I'm finished walking around the world I'm going to motorcycle around it. All these people passing me look so content. #TheWorldWalk #travel #mexico #twwphotosThe Road Ahead. Day 193. I'll have a few miles on a peaceful road before getting back on the highway. Slept next to the cattle last night, their groans were reverberating through the silence. #TheWorldWalk #travel #mexico #wwtheroadaheadGood sitting rock. Has been a great day, has barely gotten above 80. #TheWorldWalk #twwphotos #mexico #travelThe Road Ahead. Day 192. Not much shoulder for the next week so it'll be slightly more stressful walking. The land has become really verdant all of a sudden too. Also, sun rising at 6 and setting at 6, time to get to it. #TheWorldWalk #mexico #travel #wwtThe (cotton) candy man. Have to make my break through Tampico today. #TheWorldWalk #mexico #travel #wwtheroadaheadThe Road Ahead. Day 189. Hell of a time getting out of the mud pit I slept in after the storm last night. These places pop up every once in a while, mango, orange, Aloe Vera farms selling fresh juice. Mango is the best. #TheWorldWalk #mexico #travel #twwphotosGive ya a little Savannah update on day 188. She's tougher too, she used to fall into the grass and refuse to walk but now we go 17 miles no problem and sometimesHome sweet home. #TheWorldWalk #mexico #travel #twwphotosThe Road Ahead. Day 187. Should be to Tampico by Saturday. Savannah has been a champ, we did 20 miles the past two days and she didn't complain at all.
