Montevideo ➡️ Buenos Aires ➡️ Ushuaia. Tomorrow, pushing off for Antarctica. Huge shout-out to Philadelphia Sign for having my back before I took a single step and making this leg of The World Walk possible. I doubt I would have madeDay 655. Savannah and I made some friends in Gualeguaychu who took us around town in a '31 Ford. The car was built in the States, shipped to Britain, then later shipped to Argentina. It'll still do 40mph with all the original parts. #theworldwalk #travelDay 646. Out of peacedul Paraná today and towards the Uruguay border. If the next week goes smoothly I should be getting my passport stamped with one day remaining on Savannah's paperwork. #theworldwalk #travel #argentinaYou ever feel bad for not taking your dog out for the usual twenty mile walk? #theworldwalk #travel #argentina #savannahtwwThe bonus of waking up at five. #theworldwalk #travel #argentinaDay 620. It is freaking hot. Savannah and I managed to walk until noon yesterday, but after that we couldn't walk for more than a few minutes until after five. The sprawl of Tucúman was overtaken by farmland pretty quickly. Now it's peaceful, sweaty walkiSavannah in her summer cut. There was a moment during my break, when I found out Savannah's international paperwork was delayed, that I thought Savannah wouldn't be coming back to Argentina with me. For about an hour I slumped in a chair and didn't speakDay 612. The great thing about walking everyday is that despite being exposed to the elements I have a purpose each and every day; walk. I never fall asleep unsure what I'll do with tomorrow. I know I'll learn a little more and grow little more with eachDay 610. Purmamarca, the high-elevation town, is filled with pricy hotels and spas. The surrounding area is a UNESCO world heritage site, designated as such for the tremendously colored mountains. Despite this, the town is removed enough from the major poDay 603. This was one of my favorite roads I've ever walked. There was hardly any sound at all, even birds chirping was rare. Felt like I was walking somewhere sacred. #theworldwalk #travel #argentina@fitzmaro just reminded me I've been on the road for 600 days. I lost track for a bit out there in the desert. Crazy it's been 600 days, crazier that it's going to be at least 1000 more. Think I'll go get myself an Argentinian steak to celebrate. #theworlDay 548. This is some absurdly beautiful walking. The Pan-American runs just a stone's throw from the ocean for nearly the entire south of Perú. Whenever I want to cool of I just jump in the water for a minute. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 534. Spent a great four days in Chincha Alta to watch Wentz and heal the ankle. Now it's time to get moving, I should probably stay one more day so my ankle is 100% but I can't sit around any longer. Back into the great wide world today. #theworldwalkDay 530. I love having this girl around. If you hadn't noticed, she has her summer haircut. #theworldwalk #travel #peru #savannahtwwDay 522. The meloka, where the ayahuasca ceremonies take place. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay ??? - Out of the jungle, out of ayahuasca, still processing the experience and will be writing about it shortly. This is the Meloka and how it feels to be in it while the ceremonies take place. For a semblance of reality I've passed on my best photosDay 511. View from the trail to the Sun Gate. #theworldwalk #travel #peruThis was my favorite guy in the market. #theworldwalk #travel #peruThis was my view leaving Colombia, it was a shear drop off from the road, had me lightheaded at times. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaOne more angle of Las Lajas Sanctuary. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 436. Spent my last night in Colombia at Las Lajas Sanctuary. Built between two cliffs and over a river the sanctuary is like something out of a movie. After six it's lit by color-shifting lights to give it an ethereal air. Now, this morning, it's justI'd say about ninety percent of the houses I pass are single room and tin roofed. So if you have more than one room in your house, consider yourself very lucky. If you have hot water or ice consider yourself lucky too. Actually, no matter what you have coDay 435. Last full day in Colombia. It's been great, beautiful sights and friendly people, but about time to move on. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaYesterday, I came to the last mountain before Pasto. I turned left and followed the road until coming to a tunnel. A huge sign above the tunnel announced no bicycles or pedestrians were allowed. The other road to Pasto was another two hours over the mountDay 434. Yesterday was one of the toughest days since Guatemala. I had maybe thirty total minutes of flat or downhill walking. At times I wanted to scream, 'Just give me a break!' Yet somehow I managed over twenty seven miles to make it to Pasto. #theworlWe're best buds. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 433. Nearly at Pasto already, been burning out these miles. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 342. Into the hot lowlands. No coffee, no crops, not even many shops, just dry river beds and mountains in the distance. Should be climbing those mountains today and escaping the heat. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 431. Oh man, I am freaking sore. Beautiful sights, but this isn't gonna be an easy one. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 429. Back at it! Left the white city (Popayán) this morning. Feels incredible to be free of walls and out in the open air again. The only worry I have is the millimeter of metal keeping my axle from splitting in two, it only needs to last 15 days to QDay 427. There's still an off chance that the parts are in Bogotá, gonna give it a few more hours, otherwise it's back to La Plata and taking my chances on my welded axle... #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 426. And the plot thickens. Got to Bogotá yesterday only to be told customs rejected the axle because I didn't pay the $0.66 tax in time. Now the parts are being sent back to the States. This has become such an unexpected hassle. Can't complain too muDay 425. Change of plans. Ten hour bus ride straight to Bogotá to sort this out once in for all. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaThe quest for my axle continues. Turns out it made it to Bogotá but is being held there because of a $0.66 import tax. I can only pay the tax at one bank, and can't pay online. La Plata doesn't have the bank I need so I have to take a bus to Popayán. In PDay 424. Hoping today is the day this axle gets in. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaI was told there'd be a festival today but instead all the shops are closed and the park is empty. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 423. Spent a long overdue morning exploring La Plata. About a week ago I found a great breakfast spot and have been eating there every morning. Today I went to the market though and had breakfast there. (Reposted for better quality) #theworldwalk #traDay 421. Loved walking through the clouds in Puracé. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 420. Still no axles. It's been three weeks here in La Plata, I'd like to think I've been productive, but miss seeing my dot moving on maps. Fingers crossed the new parts arrive today. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 419. Axle should be arriving today! Might actually be back on the road tomorrow! #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 418. Uploaded some of my favorite photos to be available as prints. If you wanna help a brotha out and get something in return, here's the link: http://ift.tt/1WSWh71. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 417. So looks like the new parts will be arriving Thursday and I'll be back on the road soon! #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 416. Wouldn't mind waking up and having coffee on that back porch. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaWarped mountain pass. If you look real close you can see Savannah-girl. #theworldwalk #travel #colombia #savannahtwwDay 415. 6am in the little town of Puracé. Dawn is always the best walking. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 414. Walking without the cart was liberating, but I can't see myself walking with just a backpack for more than a few days. The cart is less mobile, but I can carry way more and not have the weight on my back. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDespite raining every hour I was there the muted and desaturated landscape of the Páramo had the feeling of a desert. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaSorry for the radio silence the last few days. I was getting stir crazy waiting for the new axle, so took a backpack and crossed the Cordillera Central. The landscape over the mountains was some of the most unique I've ever seen. In fact, the ecosystem, PDay 408. Nothing to do but hang by the river. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaStill trying to decide whether to cross those mountains without the cart...for now I'm gonna sit on my balcony with a cigar and a few beers, maybe do some reading too. #theworldwalk #travel #colombia #savannahtwwDay 406. So looks like it'll be at least another week until new parts get down here, but I think I've figured a way out of this...it would involve crossing the mountains to Popayán in two thirty-three mile days with just my backpack, returning by truck foBeen slacking with my photos lately, it's too easy to bum in my hotel room! Gotta step it up and get back to work, even if I'm not walking. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 405. View from my $13 a night hotel room. Looks like I'll be here through the weekend. Not much going on, La Plata is more of a town than a city. Anxious to get back on the road. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 403. I'm trying to make the most of my days while I'm waiting for the new axles to get here, but I can't help imagining how much further along I'd be if my axle hadn't broken. Anyway, was looking back through my photos and came across this guy from PaDay 403. No luck with the motorcycle...a guy has one without paperwork I could use but not gonna take my chances with that. Looks like it'll be La Plata for the week. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 402. No luck finding a motorcycle yesterday, no one wants to rent to a gringo and I can't afford to buy a bike then resell it. Gonna keep searching though, don't want to be stuck in this little city all week. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 401. I'm doing the same thing right now, but in a twelve dollar hotel room. I couldn't find someone to make a new axle, it's too specialize a part, but praise be to Philly Sign who's sending me two new ones. I'll be posted up a week or so while I waitWell not exactly where I expected to be on day 400. Pushing my cart up the mountains yesterday my axle snapped. I trudged, holding one side of the cart for about a mile, before finding a ride into town, then back to La Plata. I'm heading to a shop now toDay 399. Lots of climbing yesterday, but far more today. I'm in La Plata this morning, abusing some WiFi cause my data still isn't working. This'll be the last decent sized town/city until I'm across the mountains to Popayán. It'll be strenuous, dirt roadDay 398. Now I'm really in the middle of nowhere. Crossing over the mountains towards Popayán and for the next few days I'll be lucky to hit a single town a day. Don't have internet so images will be sparse, but it's gorgeous, breezy highlands. This is MaDay 397. Yesterday a student, Juan, saw me walking out of Neiva then later walking into his town. He stopped to talk and offered to help me find a hotel. Normally I'm on my guard, but Juan seemed earnest. We found a hotel, then he showed me around town, mSuspension bridge in to Neiva. Stayed at hotel in downtown last night so I could grab a new tire this morning. So far the Colombian cities have been cleaner and have had much better infrastructure than in Central America. No Pizza Hut to calm the WesternsDay 396. Shoutout to the family that caught me sneaking onto their property trying to find a place to sleep. Instead of kicking me off they brought me to the highest point, showed me where there was water, then brought me some milk from their farm. PeopleDay 395. Sorry for the delay! I've been in the middle of nowhere and my data stopped working for whatever reason. Finally got to a town and found some WiFi. This shot is from yesterday and essentially walked up to me. It's been flat, cloudy walking. HopefDay 393. Yesterday was much better, the road flattened and I burnt out 25 miles. Today it's a lot of humid nothing, might pass through a town. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaColombia is one of seventeen megadiverse countries. In four days I went from brisk Bogotá, into the jungle, over mountains, and finally onto flat rice paddies between mountain ranges. The flat rice paddies are my favorite. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 392. Not a great day yesterday, my mind and body just weren't up to it, only managed 10 miles. But today's a new day and I'm not giving in easily. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 391. Was almost all downhill yesterday, makes for nice walking, but also means it's getting hotter. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaJust realized I forgot to bring soap... #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaDay 390. It's strange and good to be walking again, felt great to sleep outside, but have a feeling the miles are gonna drag by today. Have about a month to Ecuador, using that as my short-term goal. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaWent for a walk to Catedral Primera de Colombia earlier and got caught in a downpour on the way back. Every time you're outside in Bogota there's about a fifty-fifty chance of it raining. Makes for nice gardens though. #theworldwalk #travel #colombia #bogOtra paisaje urbano. Best buddy @fitzmaro flying in today! He's planning to meeting up with me on every continent, two for two so far. #theworldwalk #travel #colombia #bogotaBeen loving this silver city. #theworldwalk #travel #colombia #bogotaBogota climbing the mountains. #theworldwalk #travel #colombia #bogotaIt was a couple steep miles down to where the treehouse was so we decided to take horses back up. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaView from the treehouse we stayed in the other night. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaMountain Murph. We stayed in a treehouse seventy-five feet in the air last night, we had to climb a ladder along the tree to get up there then repel down in the morning. We had a few beers, cigars, and were the same height as the monkeys. #theworldwalk #tLoving this city, dog-friendly, beautiful architecture, posh people, verdant, and the temperature makes it feel like perpetual autumn. #theworldwalk #travel #colombia #bogotaApologize for not posting the past few days, I've been enjoying resting my brain and body. Bogota is incredible. Couldn't have chose a better spot to take my well earned month off. #theworldwalk #travel #colombiaWell gents, this will probably be my last post for a good while. I have ten more days in Montevideo, then I'm headed back to the States to get Savannah's paperwork for Europe. Pet entry to Europe is a pretty insane process and I can't find any consistentWhat I do in Montevideo most days: coffee/Reddit, gym, make lunch, shower, walk to the park with Savannah, study Spanish, watch YouTube videos, eat dinner, play Diablo lll, read a short story, sleep. Just a few hours of walking left... #theworldwalk #travel #uruguayDay 665. Tomorrow will be my last day of walking in South America. A continent that was so wild in my mind has become familiar. #theworldwalk #travel #uruguayDay 664. Each terrain has its good and bad aspects. The desert was mosquito-free, but also civilization free. The woods provide shade, but harbor humidity. Hilly terrain is rough on the legs, but usually means there's a river to jump in at the end of theDay 663. Sure, universal healthcare and free college educations are nice, but for me the greatest thing about Uruguay is the shear abundance of beef. Cattle are everywhere, steak is roughly half the price it is in the States. I walked into a bar yesterdayDay 662. Uruguay is a pretty tranquil place. It has the highest per capita GDP in South America, decriminalized marijuana, and strong social programs. There are only three million people in the country and nearly two-thirds of them live in the capital citDay 661. Gonna keep these Carnaval photos going a bit longer, they're just too good. The past two days were the first in as long as I can remember that I didn't walk at least 21 miles. The humidity was crippling. Even in the shade I was sweating. Today SaDay 659. Walking a long empty road with far too much humidity. It's only nine here and I'm drenched in sweat. I was hoping for easy walking to Montevideo but doesn't look like that's going to happen. #theworldwalk #travel #argentina #carnavalHaving nine days left of South America, a shoulder to walk on, and a boat to Antarctica in three weeks has me feeling like I'm still at Carnaval. #theworldwalk #travel #argentina #carnavalDay 658. We made it to Uruguay! Our last country in South America. So surreal I've walked all this way from New Jersey. There were countless hard days when the arriving in Uruguay felt nearly impossible, yet here we are. Amazing where persistence will takDay 657. Looks like I'll be getting one sunny day today between the storms - a good opportunity to dry everything out. #theworldwalk #travel #argentinaDay 658. Yesterday it took Sav and I an hour to find a decent tree to sit under midday. #theworldwalk #travel #argentinaDay 631. A monster storm yesterday cooled things off. Today Savannah was able to jump in a roadside lake every few miles. It was a pleasant day of walking. And now we're turning southeast, the temp should be dropping steadily. #theworldwalk #travel #argenDay 630. The temperature dropped from 102° to 93° and rainy today. It isn't the greatest leaving a hotel room for rain, but I'd rather rain than heat right now. Hopefully things will start cooling off now. Spent a good two days in the small city of AñatuyDay 629. You are here, life is fascinating, be thankful. Me and the girl are back on the road today. Life is good. #theworldwalk #travel #chileDay 589. Paperwork will be ready later today, just have to take a bus to Calama to pick it up. It's been nice hanging out in San Pedro. Cool little town with lots of foreigners to trade stories with. I drained a bottle of wine and some beers last night whDay 588. Well, almost there. The government paperwork for Savannah takes a day to be processed. Tomorrow I'll either be able to pick it up here in San Pedro or I'll have to take a bus back to Calama again to pick it up. Really hoping for the former. For nChile just won't let me get into a rhythm. Turns out I missed a paper to get Savannah into Argentina and we can only get it back in Calama. Hopefully we can catch a ride tomorrow, get the paper, and be back where we left off by the afternoon. The only savDay 587. Sav and I will be passing through our last Chilean town today, San Pedro de Atacama. From there it's up into the massive nature reserve Los Flamencos where there are volcanoes, salt lakes, and, of course, flamingos. I doubt there will be cell towDay 586. I witnessed the most beautiful sunrise I've ever seen last night, it nearly had me in tears. So glad to be outdoors again. #theworldwalk #travel #chileDay 585. Back on the road today. Savannah and I are skipping about a week walk through the worst of the desert. It's by far the longest portion of walking I've skipped, but the terrain is too harsh for Savannah and I'm not taking the chance of getting stuDay 584. The plan had been to get back on the road this morning, but it occurred to me late last night that since I won't be in a city for at least 2 weeks I should probably get Savannah into the vet for one last checkup. I want to be sure I've done my duDay 583. Out of Arica and headed south. Back on the road tomorrow morning. #theworldwalk #travel #chileDay 581. I almost always sleep better on my tarp than in a bed. I think Savannah would agree, besides, look at that playground she has. #theworldwalk #travel #chile #savannahtwwDay 579. Savannah isn't quite roadworthy yet. The vet said it wasn't even worth having her blood tested, anemia takes a while to fully recover from. Since our AirBnb ran out we had to find a new one. Not many people accept dogs so I had to pay a bit moreDay 578. Headed back to the vet today to get this little one's blood tested. Depending on her levels we'll either be posted up for a while longer or be heading south tomorrow to get on the road again. #theworldwalk #travel #chileDay 575. Well Mr. Trump, I hope you know what you're doing. #theworldwalk #travel #chileDay 574. We're on the up and up here! The smallest of nosebleeds this morning, but strong through the rest of the day. Antibiotics and an eighteen hour sleep seem to have worked wonders. My stress is already draining away. My girl is getting back to normaDay 571. Bad day yesterday. Savannah's nose started bleeding after our midday break. We went straight back in the shade but it only bled worse and worse. I waved down a car which took us to the nearest town. No vet here though. We're taking a four hour taDay 570. In the day the land is so featureless it puts you to sleep, then at night the sky comes alive to keep you awake. #theworldwalk #travel #stars #chileDay 568. Okay, back on the road today. Being posted up for a few days was nice, but after a while I feel lost. The immediate purpose of walking is inherently gratifying. Whenever I walk until I'm tired I've had a good day. #theworldwalk #travel #chileDay 567. Welp, that was a brutal game last night, but such is life as Eagles fan. With the OT and the two hour time difference between Perú and Chile my internal clock is out of wack. So I'm staying in Arica for one more day to ensure a good sleep beforeDay 566. This shot is actually from back in Perú. I posted up in an AirBnb today to watch me some SNF. Further exploration of Chile starts tomorrow, but this far I'm loving it here - very clean, no honking cars, and fairly developed. #theworldwalk #travelDay 565. We made it to Chile! We arrived at the border in the afternoon, then I had to go chasing paperwork for Savannah for a few hours, but by 9pm we were across. After that we found a spot of desert and zonked out. Glad to be here! #theworldwalk #traveDay 564. Just a day's walk from the Perú/Chile border. South Perú has been barren, but northern Chile will be doubly so. Gonna have to be ready for long days in the desert. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 563. Have been passing lots of port towns. The fisherman are an extremely friendly lot, they seem to know what the important things are. #theworldwalk #travel #peruSleeping beside the ocean tonight. Just a few days from the Chilean border! #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 562. Baby girl. #theworldwalk #travel #peruOne of the coolest parts about walking along a desert-lined coast is that over the ocean the clouds are blue but over the desert the clouds are orange. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 561. Other than making it down to the pier for sunset I laid in bed just about all day yesterday. You're allowed to do that after walking 150 miles in six days. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 560. Came into Ilo yesterday absolutely toast from long, mountainous days. Savannah and I bounced between ten hotels before finding one that would accept her. After getting a room I didn't leave the bed expect to take Savannah for a walk and to get diDay 559. Pretty much sums up my walk from Lima. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 558. I always see these places and think "I could live there." Wonder where I'll actually end up. #theworldwalk #travel #peruI never had much desire to scale mountains. I've only ever wanted a large field to walk through. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 557. It's been overcast for four days straight now. I was expecting it to get increasingly hotter as I moved south, but I was actually cold at points yesterday. #theworldwalk #travel #peruWater in the valley. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 555. Just had two days of essentially perfect walking. Overcast, spanking new road, and almost no cars. Could go for some ceviche, but that'll have to wait until I get into a town. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 554. Back on the road. Camana was a beautiful, peaceful city. It's surrounded by rice paddies and borders the ocean. Don't know how the salty ocean wind hadn't turned the land fallow. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 553. There have been loads of these secluded beaches during my walk down Perú. Each time I passed one I imagined the swarm of houses that would be surrounding the beach in the US. #theworldwalk #travel #peruA ways back in the olive fields. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 552. Just making it into town today to catch the Birds! Love having these Sundays off. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 551. This is Savannah. She was plucked off a highway in Austin then adopted last August. She has paws like stones and the legs of a bodybuilder. She loves people, is scared as hell of the ocean, and can be a pretty good guard dog. I'm really glad to hDay 550. Walking beside walls of sand and enjoying the ocean breeze. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 549. The other night I was laid out for the evening on my tarp in dunes similar to these. Savannah barked, which I thought strange cause there was no signs of life. I stood and saw three human silhouettes on a near crest. One disappeared, the others mI used to walk at least twenty-four miles everyday. And at the end of everyday I was exhausted and aching. Since Lima I've realized I don't need to hurry through my days. I now walk a minimum of twenty-one miles a day and try to take each Sunday off. My bDay 547. Really glad to be back along the ocean. Much better views. #theworldwalk #travel #peruThe riverbed divide between olive farms and the desert. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 546. I came to this valley filled with olive farms yesterday. I was walking through so much dry land the last thing I was expecting was this burst of green. (Yauca District, Perú) #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 545. Long roads and lots of sand. Soon I'll be walking beside the ocean. Fingers crossed it stays relatively cool. Won't be able to watch the game, but Go Birds! #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 543. Surprised I have service to post this, don't know where it's coming from, I'm in the middle of the desert. Also, it's way cooler than I was expecting, a steady breeze has been coming off the Pacific. I'm enjoying this barren stretch very much. #tDay 542. Farmers here generally break between 12-3 because of the heat. Even towards 11 the heat can become unbearable. I met this woman in a little valley, since then it's been all sand. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 541. Just behind Nazca the road climbs to high plains. Up there it's cold, men where wool caps and the alpaca have thick fur. I'm heading in the opposite direction, towards the coast and again into the desert. It's unlikely I'll have much service forDay 540. The moon like landscape outside Nazca. Happy to be taking the day off today. I bought a kilo of strawberries for a dollar this morning and ate them all for breakfast. Yum. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 539. Been walking in a whole lot of nowhere lately. No service, no restaurants, just lots of time to turn over my thoughts. The sun is impossibly hard and wind is rare. Into Nazca today then taking the day off tomorrow. Life is good. #theworldwalk #trDay 538. Desert all day yesterday. At the end I found a peaceful hut to sleep in though. People have been super friendly, two people stopped to give me water, another stopped and gave me a few bucks. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 537. This isn't a real house. No one is living here. Someone fenced off the land and built the house to claim the land. Lots of these here. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 537. It's odd, its only about 70 degrees, but when the sun is out it feels like 95. Definitely the strongest sun I've been under, stronger even than Texas and Mexico. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 536. Ankle is feeling pretty good, definitely not 100% but not getting any worse. Five days to Nazca, after that things get really dry until Chile. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 535. Don't want to pay to have a fence installed? Pile up thorn bushes around your vineyard! #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 533. Ankle still isn't 100% and I don't want to exacerbate it by walking on it for 7-8 hours. So giving myself another day of rest. Snapped this shot a few weeks back in the Andes for @oysterhotels, this planet as some remarks sights. #theworldwalk #tDay 531. Found myself a cheap hotel to post up and watch The Birds! Walking is nice, but watching Wentz is better. #theworldwalk #travel #peruWhere in God's name is this road going? #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 529. My ankle is feeling a bit better after a good sleep. Think in another day or two I'll be tiptop. #theworldwalk #travel #peru #savannahtwwYeesh, today was rough. My left ankle has swollen lump the size of a golf ball. There's be worse, and I'll push through, just gonna be limping for a day or so. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 528. Yesterday was a good day. Made it out of the industrialized desert south of Lima and into the beginnings of agriculture. Legs are a bit sore today, but not as bad as I was expecting. #theworldwalk #travel #peruAs I make my way towards Chile I'll be bouncing off the coast and into the desert. Should be able to spend quite a few nights beside the ocean. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 527. First day back felt good. We only walked about 15 miles so it was a half day. Legs are sore, all this walking again is gonna take some getting used to. Had a great night sleep beside the ocean though. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 526. A shot of the jungle as I return to the desert. Nervous/excited to start making my way down the coast of Perú to Chile. Today the adventure continues. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 525. After a month in Lima, Sav and I are shoving off tomorrow. Returning to the desert, it'll be roughly a month walk to Chile. Excited to see what's ahead. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 524. Grabbed this shot of the Andes on my return flight from the jungle. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 523. Savannah at camp. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 521. These are glowing leaves and they are real. All around the Noya Rao tree the ground is littered with them. It feels like something out of Avatar. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 520. The Noya Rao tree was long thought extinct, but one was found a few years ago. It's a sacred tree to the Shipibo people and is referred to as The Tree of Light. Why? Well because at night it's dropped leaves glow blue. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 519. This is my buddy Keyo. He's from South Africa, we met in Guatemala, and reunited in Perú. A very wise dude with 16 years of dreads. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 518. In the outpost city of Iquitos. The only way in is by boat or plane. Just a few years ago there weren't any cars at all, even today there's only a handful. Shortly, I'll be taking a bus away from the city to the camp. #theworldwalk #travel #peruAbout to take off! Adventure in the jungle! #theworldwalk #travel #peru #savannahtwwDay 517. Well guys, gonna be off the grid for a week. Met a great guy, @nubi.vagant, way back in Guatemala who's been training to be an ayahuasca shaman in the Peruvian jungles. Ayahausca is a brew of two plants used as a spiritual medicine by indigenousDay 516. Possibly my new favorite artist, absolutely my favorite Peruvian artist - Marcelo Wong. I must find a way to send one of these home. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 515. Met this sheppard dog amid the alpacas. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 514. Been trying to upload the 360 video I have of Machu Picchu but the file is so massive I haven't found any internet up to the task yet. Hopefully I can share it with you guys by the weekend. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 513. Many beautiful sunsets in Perú. For anyone planning on visiting Machu Picchu I recommend driving from Lima to Cusco, it's a long drive but the landscapes are spectacular. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 512. Tying up some loose ends in Lima before starting my way down to Chile. It's going to be all desert for the next few months so want to ready. #theworldwalk #travel #peruI have a twenty-five minute 360° video I took while walking through the ruins. Trying to find a decent 360 video editor to clean up the video before posting it. Hopefully I'll have it online by tomorrow. #theworldwalk #travel #peruMountains off to the side of Machu Picchu. Imagine falling asleep with this view every night. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 510. Machu Picchu. It took two attempts for @julianpozzi and I to get there. We followed bad advice Wednesday, driving to the park and arriving too late to get in. Thursday though we were on the first train out of Cusco and walking through the park byDay 509. Took the train to Machu Picchu yesterday, but haven't had a chance to go over my photos yet. The place is mind boggling, a civilization just below the clouds and in the middle of the jungle. Also, photos creds to @jpozzi for snapping this shot ofDay 508. Went for a drive through the Andes yesterday. Today we're headed to Machu Picchu. #theworldwalk #travel #peruMarkets, where the deals are. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 507. One of the best views of Cusco is right outside our hostel. Gorgeous old city. #theworldwalk #travel #peruThe wild alpaca, vincuña, was all over alpine plains. We tried to approached but they're incredibly skittish. It wasn't until a straggler darted across the street that we got a good look. #theworldwalk #travel #peruOut of the desert and into Alpaca land. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 505. There's more to Nazca than just the Nazca lines, there are aqueducts too! But that's pretty much it. #theworldwalk #travel #peruWas climbing dunes yesterday, climbing mountains today. Nine hour drive to Cusco tomorrow. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 504. Awesome day yesterday, we hit a national park, an oasis, and arrived in Nazca. Now it's time for the Nazca lines. #theworldwalk #travel #peruCeviche by the sea today, roasted corn too. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 503. Since adopting Savannah a year ago we haven't been apart for more than a few hours. Today though my friend and I are starting a weeklong road trip to Machu Picchu and Savannah will be staying behind. She'll be well taken care of at my friend's paDay 503 - Military shoeshine. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 502. I enjoy cities as pitstops but I don't think I could ever live in one, I need open space to wander. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 501. Finally made it to Lima's historic district. Spent a few hours between churches, cafés, and museums. Nice way to spend the morning. #theworldwalk #travel #peruI took this a week back in the middle of the desert. There was an empty concrete house on a hill and this was my view from the doorway. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 500...day 500...New Jersey to Lima. I wonder where I'll be in another 500 days. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 499. When you see lots of these little guard stands you know you're in a nice area. Communities hire guards as a supplement to the police. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 498. In Lima, with fraternity brother @arturodtca, eating ceviche. I'm a happy man. #theworldwalk #travel #peruEnter Lima. The eight million man sprawl begins. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 497. I've been able to find an abandoned or unfinished house nearly every night for the past week. Love having protection from the wind and rain without setting up my tent, just throw out my tarp at night and pick it up in the morning. #theworldwalk #Day 496. Still desert, but a little more development. Rain last night, but an abandoned house kept Sav and I dry. Two days to Lima. #theworldwalk #travel #peruRain caught me sleeping on my tarp last night. It was the first time I've had rain in maybe two months. Propped up my tent as quickly as possible. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 495. Getting so close to Lima and some time off. I love being on the road, but man could I go for a hot shower. #theworldwalk #travel #peruOther than kids wandering about playing PokemonGo, I've had a lane to myself all day today. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 494. Think I'm through the worst of the desert until Lima. There should only be half day stretches now. #theworldwalk #travel #peruAnd then, suddenly, it was blue. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 493. Found myself a good spot last night and fell asleep super early listening to the ocean. #theworldwalk #travel #peruAfter climbing all these hills I've noticed something, the towns are always in the valleys. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 492. With nothing but desert, Savannah and I have been churning out these miles. #theworldwalk #travel #peruI took the coast because I thought it'd be flat, but I've been climbing hills all day. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 491. View from tarp the other night. In a long stretch of desert, but it's been cloudy and windy so far. Hoping that holds. About a week to Lima. #theworldwalk #travel #peruFarming amid the sand. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 490. When there's a photo across the street I pull the cart to the side of the road and tie Savannah to it. Savannah waits dutifully. Yesterday it was windy so she watched like this. #theworldwalk #travel #peru #savannahtwwDay 489. Back on the road today! 9-10 days to Lima. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 488. This shot is actually from way back at the Perú/Ecuador border. The first four days in Perú were so free of development I worried even finding water would be a problem. However, as I've made my way south the population and development has increasDay 487. My friend's family has five dogs. Plenty of friends for Savannah. #theworldwalk #travel #peruOn my way to Chimbote I had this lane to myself for about three days. It wasn't until a cop stopped me to see what I was doing though that I turned around and saw the incredible sunset behind me. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 486. The massive, brand new Catedral de Nuevo Chimbote. #theworldwalk #travel #peruInto the market. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 485. Hanging out in Chimbote for the week. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 484. I think I'll find myself a good spot to sit and finish this new Harry Potter. #theworldwalk #travel #peruThe harvest. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 483. We spent an hour harvesting yesterday - avocados, limes, walnuts, bananas, and these bad boys, papaya. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 482. Living the good life. My fraternity brother, @arturotca, picked me up outside Chimbote so we could spend a few days at his country home. Nothing like having good friends abroad. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 481. Walked into the Valle de Dios (Valley of God) yesterday. The words were painted everywhere, brick houses climbed up the mountains, and amid the desert was a swath of green. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDesert, stony mountains, and some towns here and there. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 480 - The Freedom Monument at the center of Trujillo. Something I was thinking while laid out on the tarp the other night: Man believes he can ascend from his current state when he cannot. There is no higher state. To be happy he must realize this, tMake your life an adventure. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 479. Whenever I pass a strange or unique house I like to think of someone opening its door after finishing a long journey and having that relief of finally being home. #theworldwalk #travel #peruWalked through an hour of brutal wind and pelting sand. Was especially fun when a semi flew by. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 479. Savannah and I ended our day in a long stretch of desert. We have an unfinished lane to ourselves and loads of wind to keep cool. #theworldwalk #travel #peruWalking beside the Andes. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 478. The land is getting greener and the towns more developed. Most importantly for me is spigots are more common so finding water is easier. #theworldwalk #travel #peruWe slept beside thorn bushes last night. Sav dug a hole while I got a puncture in my sleeping pad. #theworldwalk #travel #peru #savannahtwwDay 477. Sundays are always the best days for walking. Less traffic. Today it's cloudy too, so should really turn out some miles. #theworldwalk #travel #peruI'm in love with this landscape. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 476. Breaking out of the city early today. It was nice bumming around, but I'm ready to be sleeping under the stars again. #theworldwalk #travel #peruOkay, I didn't leave this morning. The lure of exploring the city for one more day was too much. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 475. We're well rested and ready to go, back on the road today. Roughly three more weeks of walking to Lima. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 474. All along the Peruvian coast is desert, so I'm not finished with it, but I made it through the single longest stretch. I'm rewarding myself with the day off. Savannah and I might go for a walk around the block, but probably we'll just lay in ourDay 473. They're not her favorite thing to wear, but when the wind picks up and the sand starts flying the doggles are going on. #theworldwalk #travel #peruSunset over the Pan-American. Just a day from civilization now... #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 472. Nothing to do but turn out these miles. One more night in the desert then should reach a town some time tomorrow. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 472. View from the tent last night. Amazingly I still have some service out here. The road is long and flat and featureless, yet somehow not too hot. Makes for great podcast walking. #theworldwalk #travel #peruWell, headed into 200km of desert. There'll be brush for about 30km then no towns for 170km. I've loaded up on water and food. I'm going to try to walk 50km a day to hustle through, the land is dry, but it's not actually that hot so it should be doable. RDay 471. It's amazing how much of a difference governments make. Each country is so drastically different. I didn't see a single tuktuk in Ecuador, now they're everywhere. #theworldwalk #travel #peruGo to the town well with your donkeys. Wait in line with the others. Walk home. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 470. Savannah in her belly shirt. The people here have been super friendly so far, just about everyone waves as they pass. #theworldwalk #travel #peruWater for filtering. #theworldwalk #travel #peruDay 469. Effortless border crossing yesterday. I got a 180 visa and they didn't even acknowledge Savannah. Since the border the land has been extremely barren, great for finding secret camping spot, but means I need to stayed well stocked with water. #theI've walked by this house every morning since getting into Macará. Ask me anything! #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorRound two! Tomorrow starting at 11am EST on Reddit, ask me anything! I've been on quite the adventure since my last AMA in Texas. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 465. View in the morning yesterday. Nearly at Macará, just a few miles left. Gonna post up there for a day to resupply and rest. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorAt the peak yesterday, beginning my descent. The land has since dried out. There's lots of wind, no clouds and lots of thorns. Eighteen miles to the border. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 464. We made it, my god we made it. Relief for my legs. It should be all downhill from the border and since it's Sunday I'll have the road to myself. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorMaking this final climb over the Andes and it's freaking terrible...so steep... #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 462. My life eight hours a day, seven days a week. Sorry for not posting yesterday, been working my way through the Andes and haven't had service. Just a few days from the border now. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorFree of the banana farms! Now it's one more climb into the Andes before heading down into the Sechura desert of Perú. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 460. Bananas, river, bananas, river, bananas, river. At least I know where my bananas come from now. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 459. Interview this morning so get to rest the legs a bit! Then once I get back on the road I have less than a week to Perú. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorIn my midday delirium I really, really wanted to sleep under that tree. The heat is on. The mountains are falling behind me and the coast is getting nearer. Passed through the hectic city of Bucay yesterday afternoon then slept in an abandoned house last night. It's always a lot easier to sleep in a weird spot knowinI've decided my favorite landscape is the Páramo, Andean plains above the treeline. I think I've passed through my last one for this walk. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 454. Walked downhill all day yesterday and pretty sure I'll do the same today. It's easier walking, but I miss the cool air of the mountains. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorAll eyes on Savannah. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 453. Taking a short cut off the Pan-American and over the Andes. I slept last night above the treeline in the Páramo - it was freezing, coldest night I've had by far. Descending now though so it's warmer. Also, how great is this photo?! She's walkingOvergrowth. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 452. What you can't see is behind those clouds is a snow capped volcano. It rained nearly all day yesterday except the fifteen minutes it took to set up camp. Got pretty lucky there. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorFirst day back and it's pouring rain. Right now I'd take the brutal mountains of Colombia for some sun. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 447. Back on the road today and roughly twenty more days until Perú. The week off has me very well rested so it's time to start burning out these miles again. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorWhere I read. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 446. New parts were released from customs yesterday and should be in Quito today or tomorrow. Though after nearly two months of waiting I'll believe it when I have my new axle in hand. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorView of Quito from the backyard. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 445 - the walkway between steeples in Basilica de Voto Nacional. Quito is a very confusing city to me, I think it would takes years to come close to understanding it. The city is high altitude, but not on a flat like I'd expect, instead it's spread ovOur stay in Quito has been made infinitely better with the help of new friends. Without them Savannah and I'd be holed up in a hotel on the city's outskirts. The generosity of people forever astounds me. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 444. Should be hearing back from customs today about how much in taxes I owe for the axle. Ecuador has a super high import tax, making a jar of peanut butter around $10 and pushing up the price of cars sixty to seventy percent. #theworldwalk #travel #Day 443. Went churching today and managed this illegal photo before being told it was illegal. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 442. It's said when La Iglesia La Basilica is finished the world will come to an end. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorI'm a fool a forgot to charge my camera before heading into the city. Anyway, here's the absurdly beautiful Iglesia La Basilica. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 441. The quest for my axle continues. The axle made it to DHL in Quito but is being held for an import tax. I need to pay customs to release the package, but customs is closed for the weekend. That means I have to wait until Monday. Thankfully though,Cool and breezy on the road to Quito. I fear I'm being spoiled before the deserts of Perú. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 441. Absolutely loving Ecuador and it's perfect roads. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorNearly to Quito and my new axle! Only half a day more. Huge thanks as always to Philly Sign for having my back and getting the new axle to me. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 440. Ended my day in a pretty densely populated area so pulled behind a school to set up. Around back was an open room of showers so laid out my tarp in there. Night came and there wasn't any problem until the school's cleaning lady followed SavannahReally enjoying Ecuador so far, primarily because it actually feels safe. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 439. Was so exhausted yesterday I passed out at 8:30. I started the gradual climb to Quito yesterday and it'll be uphill for another three days. Really enjoying Ecuador so far, my first city, Ibarra, is clean, calm, and has some decent sidewalks. #theOkay, so those twenty-eight miles I did yesterday weren't exactly with ease, definitely paying today. Still though, Ecuador has great, wide roads which make walking much easier. Should be in Quito in three days. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 438. Feeling so good back on the road. 28 miles yesterday with ease. #theworldwalk #travel #ecuadorDay 437. Getting into Ecuador was a breeze, probably the easiest border crossing yet. I'm at about 9000ft elevation right now. It's cool, there are pastures everywhere, and the road is mostly flat. So far nothing but good things. #theworldwalk #travel #ecDay 422. Welp, still in La Plata. The shipping store is closed until Tuesday for a festival. Trying to make the best of this prolonged wait, lots of reading and Spanish practice. #theworldwalk #travel #colombia
